Anweiler backing O'Brien
Mayoral candidate Piotr Anweiler yesterday sent an open letter to
the media in support of Larry O'Brien.
"I came to the conclusion that many Ottawans do not know my
platform and some of them still do not know that we have seven
candidates for mayor," Anweiler said.
"Rather than split the votes, I will support Larry O'Brien.
"Mr. O'Brien's platform is closest to my platform. We both agree
on many issues, in many aspects and areas of our city economy,"
Anweiler added.

down to nitty-Gritty Next story: Stunning
comeback
Ottawa November 10, 2006
Good morning Ottawans
I would like to announce my decision that can have an influence on
Monday's
Election and Ottawa's future.
Half year ago I signed my nomination papers for Mayor, because I
wanted
changes (at that time there was no Mr. O'Brien among the
candidates).
In the last few days I have conducted my own poll; I do not trust
polls made
by other people (my name was never included in these polls).
Based on poll I have conducted, I came to the conclusion that many
Ottawans
do not know my platform and some of them still think we have only
three candidates for mayor.
As a consequence these voters will not vote for me and therefore, my
chances
of winning are reduced.
Because of these circumstances, using my educated guess, and taking
into
consideration many other factors I have made the decision to change
my
approach.
Please remember that I am not changing my direction, my vision is
still clear and focused, and my goal is the "Well Being"
of our city and its citizens.
Mr. O'Brien's platform is closest to my platform.
We both agree on many issues, in many aspects and areas of our city
economy.
Municipal government structures, procedures and management are
different
than provincial or federal governments; therefore, political
experience is not crucial in this matter.
The city is a corporation, so it should be run more as a business;
hence,
the business experience is a greater asset.
After attending many debates I had an opportunity to talk to other
mayoral
candidates and now I know them better.
I know their weaknesses and strengths; I know their vision.
I respect all of the candidates, they worked very hard and they are
good;
but now, when the time is running out and we need to make a solid
decision
for the city of Ottawa, rather than split the votes, I will support
Larry O'Brien.
I would like to thank all my supporters, including those who have
already
voted for me.
Please do not be disappointed and I hope you will understand my
decision.
You want changes and I believe that Larry O'Brien can make these
changes for
us.
I am asking you to vote for Mr. O'Brien, whose vision is similar to
mine.
Thank you and vote smart Nov 13th.
Sincerely
Piotr Anweiler
